Kopiosto paid EUR 2.5 million in copyright remunerations to authors and publishers

In December, we paid EUR 2.5 million in copying remunerations to authors and publishers. The remunerations are paid to 26 member organisations representing different cultural and communication industries.

The remunerations are paid according to the volume of photocopying and printing books, magazines and sheet music in educational institutions, companies, municipal administration and congregations. With licences purchased from us, educational institutions, public administrators and companies can copy the copyrighted material published in books, magazines and online, such as text and illustrations.

We pay copying remunerations to our member organisations three times a year. In 2020, we have paid nearly EUR 21 million to the organisations in remunerations.

Our member organisations distribute the remunerations to the authors and publishers in their respective fields as grants and awards or education, information and counselling services. This year, with the copying remunerations, several Kopiosto member organisations have supported the creative industries that suffered heavily due to the coronavirus pandemic with additional grants, among other measures.
