The licence acuired by the Finnish National Agency for Education applies to early childhood education and care, pre-primary and basic education, general upper secondary education, free education leading to a vocational upper secondary qualification and educational institutions providing basic education in the arts that receive state subsidies. The agreement of the Finnish National Agency for Education covers the early childhood education provided in both daycare centres and family day activities. The licence obtained by the Finnish National Agency for Education does not apply to school club activities or after-school club activities.
Who are authorised to record programmes?
Our licence authorises teachers and the staff of educational institutions to use TV programmes in education.
Our licence enables
- recording and presenting TV programmes broadcast on the channels Yle TV1, Yle TV2, Yle Teema & Fem and MTV3 channels
- presenting Finnish and foreign programmes from Yle Areena, Elävä arkisto and MTV Katsomo
Which programmes are allowed to be presented and recorded?
Yle Areena, Elävä arkisto and MTV Katsomo
Our licence enables the presentation of TV programmes in Yle Areena, Elävä arkisto and the free-of-charge streaming service MTV Katsomo for teaching purposes. However, our licence does not allow programmes available in Yle Areena, Elävä arkisto and MTV Katsomo to be recorded from these streaming services.
Films in cinema or video distribution may also not be presented with our licence.
TV programmes
You may record TV programmes broadcast on the channels Yle TV1, Yle TV2, Yle Teema & Fem and MTV3 channels.
Finnish educational programmes can be stored and presented without a specific time limit. Other programmes can be presented for two years from the date of recording.
Our licence does not allow the recording of
- Finnish or foreign films currently in cinema or video distribution
- commercials
- programmes broadcast on channels not listed above
Radio programmes
You can also record Yleisradio’s educational radio programmes. Our licence does not allow the recording of other radio programmes or radio programmes broadcast on other radio stations.
However, you are authorised to listen to online radio programmes or programmes broadcast on radio stations in education without restrictions.
Record formats
You can record these programmes on a DVD or a digital TV recorder, for example. You can also save programmes on online servers that are connected to the educational institution’s own internal network or in a closed network that is shared by educational institutions and included within the scope of our licence.
Our licence does not allow programmes used in teaching to be saved in online recording offered by operators.
Presenting films and videos
Our licence does not apply to the presentation of purchased, lent or rented recordings or videos published online (e.g. on YouTube) in teaching. These formats require a separate permission from the copyright holders.
However, videos may be presented for illustration for teaching without a licence if no licence is available or offered for their presentation in teaching. Examples of such videos include commercials and YouTube videos. In general, only a part or clip from a video may be presented for illustration for teaching.
