Support is awarded as personal grants to professionals. The applicant needs to have a Finnish social security number.
The support can be granted for
- working in audiovisual industry in artistic, journalistic, technical/artistic or production jobs for their personal further education or further training
- for follow-up research projects
- for preparation of literary works relative to the industry
- for preparation of training material for the audiovisual industry and its professionals
- support for language skills training will be granted for translators only
The support won’t be granted for
- international training related to a project – then applicant should instead apply for the support for international promotion
- basic education in the audiovisual industry or for a training that is clearly meant to be paid by the employer
- travelling costs to festivals and other festivals without an educational dimension
Application procedure
Applications are submitted to the online application system. The AVEK education section makes the decisions on training grants. The application must reach AVEK two weeks before the education section meeting, and prior to the training event / course. Support cannot be applied for retroactively.

Support criteria
- applicant’s previous training, education and work experience
- previously awarded grants
- level and content of the planned training
- suitability of the training for the applicant’s professional needs
- an applicant may receive grants once every two years at most, with the exception of continuing projects directly related to the same training project, or other sufficiently compelling reasons
- employer is required to participate in the training costs when the applicant is working with a permanent contract
- some employees of YLE and MTV Oy can apply for support from the YLE Koura Education Fund distributing copyright remuneration funds for further training

Contract and payments
Support will be paid against a written contract. The contract defines the rights and duties of the support recipient and the date for the final report submission. If the support has not been drawn within three months of the decision, and no substitutive plan has been submitted, the undrawn support will be returned to the AVEK promotion funds.
Final report
A final report must be submitted to the online application system within the date stated in the letter of commitment.
If the final report has not been submitted within the agreed time limit, and no new deadline has been agreed on with AVEK, the granted support must be returned.
Overdue final report prevents the granting of new supports.
Final report must include at least the following annexes:
- evaluation of the actualised training
- statement of expenses and financing
- recipients of research and publishing grants must submit a copy of the research paper or publication to AVEK
- other possible annexes, e.g. photographs/images, links, etc. (voluntary)’

Support may be granted to operator/occupational groups, organisations, or other bodies working in the audiovisual industry for arranging courses and training events aimed at the audiovisual field.
