Introduction

AVEK Audiovisual Centre promotes audiovisual culture with copyright remunerations by supporting the works, productions, and projects of audiovisual industry professionals. The majority of the funds come from private copying levies financed from the General State Budget. We are part of the Finnish copyright organisation Kopiosto.

Who makes AVEK’s funding decisions?

  • Documentary films, short fiction and animation films, and film sector projects – AVEK’s Film Commissioner, and when necessary the Director
  • Media art works and media art projects – Director of AVEK and a group of experts
  • CreaDemo and DigiDemo – creative culture expert groups
  • Training and course supports – AVEK’s education section
  • Support for international promotion – CEO of Kopiosto

AVEK has a board of directors, an education section, and creative culture expert groups (DigiDemo and CreaDemo) appointed by the Kopiosto board of directors.

The AVEK Award was presented annually from 2004 to 2023 in recognition of creative work. The award could be granted to a creator or group working in media arts or other audiovisual culture. AVEK also published AVEK-lehti (AVEK magazine) from 1993 until 2019.
